THE WOLF'S LAIR HAS COME ALIVE

This was an outstanding adventure, the woods were teeming with life, summer has snuck up on us over the last week with the heavy showers fuelling the abundant growth of vegetation.

The saturated ground enhanced the fragrance of flowering plants filling the air with a heady bouquet, as we made our way into the shade of the wooded valley the crew went to work sniffing out their old familiar route from last summer.

A cooling breeze swept up the slopes of the wood from the sea below as strong sunlight penetrated the canopy casting a dappled patten on the floor stretching before us enticing us deeper into the wood, Woodpeckers drumming and the song of territorial songbirds staking that claim to their special peace of woodland provided the soundtrack to our walk. By this time the crew were dashing round trying to beat each other to the next sniff! We ventured to the valley floor where ferns and delicate mosses covered the ground next to the stream cascading over stones, down here this part of the wood has an enchanted feel about it with large stoney outcrops and stunted old oak trees covered with lichen. So much to take in you need your wits about you if you don't want to miss something, our walk was made extra special with Cuckoos seeking out foster parents in stealth mode, only given away by songbirds going completely nuts trying to prevent the cuckoo approaching.

We left them to it as we dropped closer to our destination the Wolf's Lair at shore level. I just love to see the crew so relaxed going about their doggie business tails wagging completely free to roam, the return trip is tough on the legs up hill all the way but what an adventure, with treats and water waiting back at the van.
